Pedrosa Wins in Jerez
Dani Pedrosa took a decisive victory in the MotoGP in Jerez a couple of seconds in front of Rossi, who gained his 100th podium in MotoGP, and Lorenzo. Pedrosa led from the first corner getting his second brilliant start from two rounds. In the interviews on the Spanish television channel TVE Lorenzo was obviously gutted to "only" come in third but was magnanimous in his congratulations to Pedrosa and Rossi. The interview with Pedrosa was typical of his style and he talks as though he's talking to his mechanics complaining about problems with the tyres, if only everyone had his problems!
Another interesting part of the MotoGP in Jerez was the presence of the King of Spain, Juan Carlos, showing that motorcycling is becoming more and more a sport of the masses. Juan Carlos also took Pedrosa and Lorenzo by the hands and got them to shake but it didn't seem to make much difference to the frosty attitude they have to each other.
Prior to the MotoGP Rossi had a laugh when asked about the tension between Lorenzo and Pedrosa and said that it reminded him of the time he first came in to MotoGP and his relationship with Capirossi who, by the way, finished 5th on his Suzuki with Toseland behind in 6th.
The Kentucky Kid, Hayden, had a great ride to come in 4th while Stoner couldn't seem to stay on the track but he still came in 11th.
To repeat myself this year is looking like a great year for MotoGP in all the catagories with closely matched riders determined to win.

BBC - Smith Third in Jerez
Bradley Smith earned the second podium position of his career when he finished third behind Simone Corsi in the 125cc Grand Prix at Jerez on Sunday.
The 17-year-old started from pole and came home behind new championship leader Corsi and Spain's Nicolas Terol.
Bautista Shows Spirit
Alvaro Bautista showed great racing spirit after being taken out in a dramatic crash on the last part of the last lap of the 250 MotoGP race which he was leading in Jerez. He understood that Simoncelli wanted to win with as much conviction as he did and he partly dismissed the crash as a problem with his bike.

Lorenzo on Pole - Jerez MotoGP 2008
JEREZ, Spain (Reuters) - MotoGP rookie Jorge Lorenzo clinched his second pole position in a row with a series of record-breaking laps on his Yamaha in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix on Saturday.
The 20-year-old Spaniard, who finished second in the season-opening race in Qatar, broke Italian Loris Capirossi's 2006 pole record four times to clock a blistering time of one minute 38.189 for the 4.4-km lap.
Fellow Spaniard Dani Pedrosa was 0.6 seconds down on his arch-rival with the second quickest time on his Honda and American Colin Edwards completed the front row on the Yamaha Tech 3.

Well there's no doubting Lorenzo's intentions on the first day of practice. It's great to see a rookie doing so well and let's hope it translates in to an exciting race, which I'm sure it will.
Jorge Lorenzo:
"The first day has gone very well and I'm really happy to have had a day like this here at Jerez," said the reigning two-time 250GP champ. "My bike feels great and it's a huge emotion for me to be here riding 'at home' in front of all the Spanish fans. I feel like all of Spain is watching us this weekend and I hope that we're going to be able to give them a great show here over the weekend."

Childrens Motorcyle Camp - 30-06-08

This year we have decided to organize a “MotoCamp” in an unparralled atmosphere, in Salardú (Valle de Arán) where a completely renovated and adapted earth circuit is located with which we hope to feed the passion of young people who prefer motorcycles over bicycles. The MotoCamp takes place during two weeks in July (30.06-06.07.08 or 30.06-12.07.08), during the course of which the young people will have a good time steering a Honda CRF 4 stroke of different cylinder capacities. We combine this with English classes and a beautiful natural environment.

Day of Champions tickets to go on sale - 31-03-08
http://www.riders.org/doc/default.aspx
Riders is pleased to announce that tickets for Day of Champions 2008 will be going on sale on Monday 31st March 2008 at 9am.
Our biggest annual fundraising event will take place on Thursday 19th June, before the British MotoGP at Donington Park – and we wanted you to be among the first to know when tickets are going on sale.
This year we are giving you the chance to buy tickets 24 hours a day through the online shop on our re-launched website www.riders.org. Those that don’t want to buy online can call the Day of Champions ticket-line on 08702 242 960 from 9am on Monday 31st March. The ticket-line will be open from 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday.
Prices for Day of Champions 2008 will be the same as 2007 – Tickets for the paddock and pit-lane are £25 and ride-in tickets are priced at £50 each. For full details of ticket prices for 2008, click here.
Once again, fans will be able to see behind the scenes of MotoGP as the teams give up their time and open up the paddock to lucky ticket holders. As always there will also be lots of events taking place on the infield and around the track.
Former British Superbike Champion, Niall Mackenzie, has confirmed that he will be leading the traditional ride-in to Donington Park. This year the ride-in meets at Mallory Park, before completing two laps of the track. Participants then head to the Victoria pub in Coalville, where they will enjoy breakfast before heading to Donington. It concludes with hundreds of bikers taking to the tarmac for two parade laps of the famous track.
As ever, the climax to the day will be the famous live auction, with appearances from the MotoGP riders. In 2007 a set of five paintings charting Valentino Rossi’s career raised £6,000 and a signed helmet belonging to world champion, Casey Stoner, sold for £2,000. This year British star, James Toseland, will make his first appearance at a Day of Champions auction as a MotoGP rider.
We will keep you up to date with all the latest news and information in the run up to Day of Champions, and you can also visit the Day of Champions website by clicking here.
Riders would like to thank everyone at Dorna and IRTA for making Day of Champions possible. We would also like to thank all the teams, riders, and everyone else in the paddock for giving up so much of their valuable time to help raise money for our work.

100 Fotos para David - 100 Photos for David
David is 22 years old and is a motorcyclist from Madrid who last year was enjoying of the Spanish GP with his friends in Jerez. This year he won't be able to travel to Jerez because last October 6th he suffered a serious accident against an unprotected crash barrier.
David has had to change his residence and leave his home in Madrid to live in the Paraplegic of Hospital of Toledo. A group of his friends have prepared a banner that will be exhibited on March 30 in Jerez on the W3 stand with the message: "KILLER CRASH BARRIERS, WE ARE NOT THE CAUSE, WE ARE THE VICTIMS."
His friends have requested the help of 'Lucha Motoera' to make sure that pictures of the banner receive the widest possible media coverage and David can see the support. 'Lucha Motoera' is also planning to hold up a banner with the message "We are with you David".
With this article we want to request your collaboration and to ask all those of you who go to the Spanish GP in Jerez to take a picture of the banners and you send it to the following e-mail:
100fotosparadavid@luchamotera.com
Include your name and where you live in the e-mail. Using all the received pictures a digital album will be mounted on the web so that David can see that the collective motorcyclists are with him and with all the victims of these unjust and cruel traffic accidents that only happen for the lack of will of those who have the power to put an end to this situation but are unwilling.
The campaign calls itself "100 pictures for David", although we hope to get not just a hundred but 200, 1.000 or more pictures... Thank you for your help.

Vectrix Electric Maxi-Scooter Review
This American designed - Polish built scooter looks great but it has one major drawback and that is its' range of 68 miles although I suppose for an inner-city commute it would be fine and could be left on charge at the workplace.
Alicante Bike Camp - Motorcycle Friendly Camping and Caravans
It is for motorbikes only - It specifically caters for touring bikers and their
pillions.
This is great accommodation close to Alicante and its' beaches and great nightlife as well as being close to great routes into the mountains and inland Spain.

The Other Isle of Mann Motorcycle Race - Manx GP 16 to 29 August 2008
Believe it or not there are other motorcycle races held on the Isle of Mann and the Manx GP is to be held from 16 to 29 August 2008. The website, http://www.iommgp.com , hasn't got much information on this years event yet.
Hetton-le-Hole's Keith Pringle is aiming firmly for glory at this year's Manx Grand Prix where the 32-year old will make his Mountain Course debut.
Supergran's half century in racing
She was 14 years old. Sheelagh celebrated her 64th birthday in June and she is still racing. In fact she has not missed a single season since that debut. She and husband David White will be among those in action at the VJMC’s Festival of 1000 Bikes at Mallory on 14 and 15 July. Between them they own a stable of road race, hill climb and sprint machines, some of which were raced by Sheelagh’s father before her. Pride of the collection is a works Scott outfit campaigned in the very first sidecar TT in 1923. Sheelagh’s father bought it from the factory the following year and used it in his job as a plumber. How much is it worth now? Don’t ask. The picture shows Sheelagh with husband and the outfit in the garden of her Cambridgeshire home.

Heaven Can Wait charity bikers meet World Record holders.
The Heaven Can Wait charity motorbike riders recently met up with double World Record holders Kevin and Julia Sanders of GlobeBusters at a BMW open day in Hertford.
Kevin and Julia were on hand to talk about the recent experiences travelling from Alaska to Patagonia, one of the many tours they run for bikers from around the world and they were quick to offer advice to the riders, led by Derbyshire Ambulance Technician Kevin Gent.
“We are very much aware of this ride through our involvement with Sawbridgeworth BMW” said Kevin Sanders, seen mounted on the BMW. “We would love to take part, but unfortunately we have prior commitments, but we wish the group all the best and they have our full support.”
The group of more than 30 are planning to ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats in just one day in aid of Cancer Research UK and the Nottingham City Hospital.
“It was great to see the GlobeBusters in person, we’ve spoken on the phone and they have been providing some great advice for us” said Mr Gent. “Our ride is quite a challenge and we need all the advice we can get – it doesn’t come any better than from Kevin and Julia.”
The charity motorbike ride takes place on Saturday 26th July 2008. When complete, it will set a new record with the Iron Butt Association as the largest group of riders to complete the journey in 24 hours.
“We will soon be featured in the Motorcycle Sport and Leisure magazine” added John Devlin, sponsorship co-ordinator. “Their editor and photographer will both be joining us so this is a great time to get involved if you have a business to promote – we are more than happy to talk about a range of sponsorship opportunities.”

This has the feel of an advert from the 1950's but it's new. The screen looks like a great idea.
Francisco needs help to commercialise the idea. Send an e-mail to him at xp.baterno@gmail.com if you can give some support.
Heaven Can Wait - Lands End to John O'Groats' in a day
Kevin Gent from Derbyshire and a group of more than 30 friends are planning to take on the ‘challenge of the year’ by riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats – the entire length of the country – in just one day.
The ride is set to raise thousands for Cancer Research UK and the Nottingham City Hospital. Kevin, who works for the East Midlands Ambulance Service at King’s Mill Hospital, was diagnosed with thymic cancer in 2005. After a series
of scans and tests, Kevin underwent 19 weeks of chemotherapy and it soon took its toll. This was followed by a further 5 weeks of radiotherapy, placing
an enormous strain on his family. “It seemed to burn my very soul” said Kevin. “The cancer took away my right lung so that has stopped me running marathons, something I was very passionate about before my illness. After running, my next passion is motorcycling so I am really looking forward to this challenge - I think it will inspire me do even greater things.”
The ride takes place on Saturday 26th July 2008 and has been titled Heaven Can Wait. When complete, it will set a new record with the Iron Butt Association as the largest group of riders to complete the journey in 24 hours. Sponsorship co-ordinator, John Devlin, commented that the level of interest was growing daily. “We’re delighted by the reaction we’ve received so far, including one single donation of £1000 by Arval Fleet Management. Sawbridgeworth BMW dealership has also donated the use of two R1200GS Adventure motorbikes – this will form part of an auction evening which will raise further funds.” Collection goblets are being placed in several
Subway outlets, backed by posters advertising the website - www.HeavenCanWait.uk.com. Specialist communications company Autocom
have also stepped in to ensure that riders can keep in touch with the support vehicles on the journey by supplying their latest bike-to-bike systems and they too have offered further items for the auction. The group are still looking for more help and
inspiration though and would love to hear from potential sponsors or anyone who might be able to raise awareness or generate further donations. “I suspect there are many people reading this who have some great ideas they would love to share”
added John. “We can’t take many more people with us due to the logistics of refuelling, break stops and accommodation issues, but we are still open to
suggestion, especially if someone feels they can generate a substantial level of donation themselves!” Visitors to the website can sign up for free to receive a newsletter which will also put them into a draw to win a great prize. You can contact the team through their website www.HeavenCanWait.uk.com which has more
information about the event, updated news items and a blog feature, as well as secure online donation facilities, or directly by email to info@HeavenCanWait.uk.com
