Bennetts Motorbike Insurance - Free!!
Toseland Hits the Phones
British biking hero and MotoGP star James Toseland will launch a month-long promotion for Bennetts, the nation’s favourite bike insurance provider, by working in their Coventry contact centre on Tuesday 8th April. James, a classically trained pianist, will be using a different type of keyboard for the day as he works alongside staff at the insurance provider’s contact centre, talking to customers who have taken out a policy on the day.
As the nation struggles in the grip of higher prices, Bennetts is saving bikers money every day throughout April by offering free motorbike insurance*. In an unprecedented giveaway, five policies will be refunded every day in April, totaling over 150 free policies throughout the month. James will take to the phones on Tuesday to speak to customers, with the chance that one of his lucky callers will take away free annual cover.

British Superbikes Snowed Off At Brands Hatch
While the sun was beating down on the World SuperBike racing in Valencia, Spain this is what was happening in the UK.

MotorSport Vision Racing, the event organiser, has rescheduled the meeting for May 10th-11th with grid positions from qualifying on April 5th still standing. This means that the Rizla Suzuki pairing of Tom Sykes and Atsushi Watanabe will start from fifth and ninth places respectively.

Max Neukirchner was leading from the first corner in a Pedrosa style ride on his Suzuki for Team Alstare Suzuki and didn't seem to be able to put a tyre wrong. He stretched out a good lead on Baylis and the following riders.
But then came Carlos Checa having a fantastic ride on his Hannspree Ten Kate Honda. He'd got off to a bad start but soon made up for it and he was tearing through the field in front of his home crowd and was just about to take the lead on the last corner of the last lap when his grip failed and both he and Neukirchner 
ended up in the gravel. Checa immediately remounted and came in 5th but Neukirchner was out of the race.

In 2006 Lorna and I took our grand-daughter to do the Disney World bit in Orlando. Whilst there we drove up to Daytona to see what bike week was all about having read about it and seen it on TV.
When we realised just how big it was we decided we would make a trip on our own as its not the ideal place for a child. Feb 27th 2008 saw us booked into the Hilton Hotel on Atlantic Drive, Daytona. Bike week did not start officially until the 29th but we wanted to see what it was like before and after.
Daytona main street is the street where the bikes drive up and down for 18hrs a day, but on the 27th of Feb it was deserted many shops preparing for the coming week and only a few bikes around.
We had a quick walk up and down and then drove out of Daytona for dinner. During the 28th things starting warming up and the town started to come to life. Many Americans take the bikes in trailers or pick up trucks, when you see the weather forecast on the TV you realise why, whilst we were on the world famous beach in Daytona New York had snow and weather was horrendous. Lots of places in America were under snow so riding the bikes was impossible. When we walked the 5 minutes from the hotel to Main Street on the 29th the change was incredible. All the shops, trade stands and pubs were open, there were hundreds, if not thousands, of bikes lining Main Street and the pavements were full of people.

Yes it had started and yes we were at Daytona for Bike Week. There are many events taking place during bike week that are away from the town, at the Daytona Speedway are the likes of Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki etc etc and this is where the bike builders are showing off their incredible bikes, trikes and choppers. Around the area are many shows and traders with shows and trade stands, many bars and shops, one of them is called Destination Daytona. This is the biggest Harley dealership in the world and we visited it and the many traders and dealers that are on this one huge site.
During our 10 day stay in Daytona we visited many of the sites around the area and believe me we saw some sights during our stay, every size bike you can imagine in every style you can imagine, I could write for hours about what to see in Daytona, about the bikes, about the trikes, about some of the strange looking bikes and the strange looking bikers but without being there you cannot appreciate it.
Of course there are the Harleys and the choppers and lots of Goldwings of every description. There is a company that make trikes and outfits and they had on show a Goldwing with four wheels, not everybody's cup of tea but I thought it looked fantastic and would say its the best quad I have ever seen.
I did a test ride on a Harley, there is something about a Harley and it was a nice bike but not for me, I did see a sticker on the back of a pick up truck that read, I ride too long, too far and to fast for a Harley, that's why I rode a wing.
I did get to meet Vinnie from the TV series American Chopper who has now started up on his own with Cody (ex AC) he seemed a nice guy and was very chatty.
I consider myself very lucky to have a wife who is into bikes as much as I am and is almost as happy as me to wander around looking at bikes all day. If you can do it I would recommend bike week to anybody interested in motorcycling of any description, it is the biggest bike rally in the world with an estimated 700,000 bikes attending it over 9 or 10 days. Love the Americans or hate them they know how to put on a show.
You need to be patient when trying to walk up Main Street because of the sheer number of people. I must say when you consider the amount of beer drank that week, and believe me they drink, we did not see one bit of trouble or hear one raised voice during our stay.
So go for it and enjoy it, if you can, stay in Daytona and feel the atmosphere, go to www.officialbikeweek.com and have a browse.
Now we have done that we are looking at Sturgiss in South Dakota, that's where the second biggest bike rally is. So could be our next trip to America in 2009.

Prumm takes 8th place on Yamaha debut
Double Women’s MX World Cup winner and new Yamaha motocross racer Katherine Prumm took a very respectable eighth position overall in her first ride on the YZ250F in New Zealand last weekend; against male opposition. The 19 year old gained a top ten slot in the Thames Valley Championships held at the Patetonga circuit.The first moto of three was not easy for Prumm as she drew a gate pick down in 23rd place and became tangled mid-pack around the first corner. She struggled initially to adapt to a slick track that had been made damp through rainfall and also had some arm-pump, in the end taking 11th place.
“The Valley Champs event was my first race on board the Subway Yamaha and my new YZ250F. Prior to the event I had only ridden the bike three times so everything was still really new to me and I was a little nervous for my first event,” she commented.

European Women's Champion Nina Prinz on Yamaha R1
Yamaha has long recognized that not only many women ride motorcycles, but that they like to ride fast on a race track too. The most recent proof comes in the shape of current Womens’ Road Racing European Champion in the 1000 class Nina Prinz, who will team up with Yamaha in 2008.
Twenty-five-year-old Nina, from Mannheim/Leutkirch in Germany, won all three 2007 European Women Championship races sanctioned by the UEM (European Motorcycle Union). This success landed her with the opportunity to defend her title on Yamaha’s YZF-R1 Superbike flagship, which she will race for the first time at Misano (I) on 13 April, then Assen (NL) on 15 June and the final Championship round will be held at Albacete (ESP) on 12 October.
Nina and her R1 will also be competing in the male-dominated IDM German Superbike Championship for Team Yamaha Motor Germany, riding alongside former 2000 World Supersport champion Jörg Teuchert and Polish rider Andrzej Pawalec.

Click here to go to the blog.Sólo puedo empezar este texto agradeciendo a la afición el calor que me ha transmitido desde las gradas durante todo el Gran Premio de España en Jerez. Ya dije la semana pasada
que ganar en ese circuito es muy bonito.
Afortunadamente he podido repetir, al conseguir mi primera victoria ahí en MotoGP.
Es increíble. A veces te metes en una burbuja. Pero el domingo, cuando termina la carrera y liberas la presión, notas algo que no se percibe en ningún otro circuito. Muchas veces corres en países de grandes pilotos y campeones, pero que no tienen ni de lejos algo similar.
En Jerez el calor de las gradas es algo fantástico, inigualable. Saber que hay gente animando a tope haga sol, viento o lluvia, animando sin parar, es algo que el piloto agradece muchísimo. Y he tenido la suerte de poder comprobarlo un año más. Leer el resto de la entrada »

Pedrosa Wins in Jerez
Another interesting part of the MotoGP in Jerez was the presence of the King of Spain, Juan Carlos, showing that motorcycling is becoming more and more a sport of the masses. Juan Carlos also took Pedrosa and Lorenzo by the hands and got them to shake but it didn't seem to make much difference to the frosty attitude they have to each other.
Prior to the MotoGP Rossi had a laugh when asked about the tension between Lorenzo and Pedrosa and said that it reminded him of the time he first came in to MotoGP and his relationship with Capirossi who, by the way, finished 5th on his Suzuki with Toseland behind in 6th.
The Kentucky Kid, Hayden, had a great ride to come in 4th while Stoner couldn't seem to stay on the track but he still came in 11th.
To repeat myself this year is looking like a great year for MotoGP in all the catagories with closely matched riders determined to win.
