My Favourite Things – Posts On #womoco July 2013

These are some of my favourite posts out of the hundreds posted on the World Motorcycle Community last month.

The first is this computer art by +Louise Burrows which you can see here Ducati Night.  I really like the style of this painting.

The second is an original motorcycle art design Manga style Hamaguchi Racing.

Third in the list of no particular order is this banked track photo posted by +Mohamed Nofli which is here and gives the effect that the bike is clinging to that corner.

+Ashwin Raj T posted a photo that gives the full effect of the beauty and the prospects on a ride through Monument Valley.

+Marco Florian showed us that you can enjoy a day or two riding your bike on a race Track-day and than head off in to the Dolomite Mountains another day.  What a life!

Lastly is +David David's photo of his 75 year old Dad's new Ninja 300.  Old age is definitely the time to start biking if you haven't already tried it. Nothing better for keeping that heart rate up.

The FIM has announced the provisional entry list for the 2012 MotoGP World Championship, which gets underway on April 8th with the opening round in Qatar. The provisional list is as follows:

Checa scores pole at Assen

Carlos Checa (Althea Racing) secured his third pole in three race meetings with a fabulous 1 minute 35.292 second lap in the final Superpole session, leading home Jakub Smrz (Effenbert - Liberty Racing Ducati) and Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Superbike Team). The final place on the front row for Sunday's races was taken by Noriyuki Haga (Pata Racing Team Aprilia).

Top level sport needs drama and that is exactly what we got on the eighth lap of the Spanish Grand Prix. For the first time in Rossi’s brief Ducati career, it seemed the bike was actually working to his liking. A podium or even a victory seemed possible, a bet that no one in the paddock would have taken after Saturday’s qualifying practice. As he went down the pit straight, Rossi tried to brake as late as possible, something that had never seemed too difficult for him while riding his ex-lover, the Yamaha M1. The GP11 Ducati, however, is not that smooth, gentle Yamaha and even in the hands of a nine-time world champion the front end folded going into turn one. What happened after that will be talked about for days, months and years to come.

Happy Christmas, bikers!

Merry Christmas one and all – is there anyone still reading this at their desks, or have you all biked off for Christmas already? Bunch of slackers.

I drove my Golf VI 2.0 turbodiesel test car into work yesterday (lovely, lovely) and followed a Gixer for most of the way. Funny, isn’t it, how I can look at Ducatis and Aprilias and sigh longingly, but actually, when a GSX-R1000 streams by, I always think there’s nothing quite like that bike, even though I don’t think it’s attractively styled.

Catalunya MotoGP 2009 - “Mama Mia”

For once I was glad I wasn’t at the track alongside the 88,500 fans that watched the Catalunya MotoGP.  There is no way I could have got the view that the BBC gave me watching Lorenzo and Rossi in the most closely fought race of the season.  Valentino Rossi commented on Jorge Lorenzo taking pole position for the race that maybe if he had gone to the toilet before the final qualifying session he would have been on pole instead, it was that close.

And the race didn’t disappoint as they duelled with each other wheel to wheel for 25 laps.  At 200 mph down the straight Lorenzo passed Rossi with 13 laps to go and still they stayed locked together.  With 3 laps left Rossi took the lead back from Lorenzo and they then both went all out for the win.  Rossi was out to re-establish his pride having been beaten by Stoner and Lorenzo in front of his home crowd at the Italian MotoGP.  Lorenzo wanted to show his home crowd that he could beat the Doctor.

For a couple of the corners it was sharp intakes of breath for the viewers as it looked almost certain that their desire to win was going to leave them both face down in the gravel.  The superb Yamahas kept their grip and on the last corner of the last lap Rossi nipped through to take the victory.  As Rossi commented at the press conference - “Mama Mia”!!

Stoner, suffering with some sort of bug, came in third battling to hold off Dovizioso.  Capirossi had a great result coming in 5th ahead of the injured Pedrosa.

The overall results show that there are now three joint leaders of the MotoGP World Championship – Lorenzo, Rossi and Stoner – now that’s what you call close.

Double Dutch delight for Bayliss at Assen

Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) powered to his second double of the year with two convincing wins at the Assen TT Circuit in the Netherlands in the fourth round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship front of 75,000 spectators.

Ducati Marlboro MotoGP Project Director Livio Suppo has commented on the rumour that former MotoGP riders Troy Bayliss and Max Biaggi are being lined up to test the Desmosedici GP8, confirming that the Italian factory are considering such a move.
