Essentially a guy (Radar) in Texas who loves motorcycle touring is considering setting up a lodge (or lodges) to specifically cater for touring bikers. You might be thinking that you can save money by hopping over those toll booths but there is no way you’ll be allowed to take off from anywhere but a designated airfield.
In June 2010, Gary France will be starting a 4 to 5 month, 13,800 mile tour of the USA on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. At the moment, he is in the planning stage and this blog gives details of how the planning is going. Later, when he is on the tour, it will be updated daily.
Gary said, “I am planning this 13,800 mile tour across the USA from my home just north of London in the UK. I have two Harley-Davidsons motorcycles and I am fortunate that I am able to retire early (part-time at least), put away my business suits and then do some of the things I have wanted to do for years!”

Thousands of island bikers are riding to raise money for children's Christmas presents. Video

But yesterday the region's motorcycle riders showed their softer sides as they donated money and toys to St John's Care and the Salvation Army at the Canberra Motorcyclists' Toy Run. The 28th annual run was the largest ever, attracting more than 1000 bikers from about 10 ACT clubs, including the Ulysses Club and the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club.
The whiskered, leather-clad bikers donned red Santa caps and opened their wallets to raise more than $6500 for St John's Care, while the Salvation Army was inundated with hundreds of toys to ease the burden on battling families.

Merry Christmas one and all – is there anyone still reading this at their desks, or have you all biked off for Christmas already? Bunch of slackers.
I drove my Golf VI 2.0 turbodiesel test car into work yesterday (lovely, lovely) and followed a Gixer for most of the way. Funny, isn’t it, how I can look at Ducatis and Aprilias and sigh longingly, but actually, when a GSX-R1000 streams by, I always think there’s nothing quite like that bike, even though I don’t think it’s attractively styled.
A typically madcap Hairy Bikers' journey through the verses of one of the most popular Christmas songs.
For each line of the song, the boys have come up with a fantastic twist on a classic Christmas dish. From roast partridge with spiced pears (a partridge in a pear tree) and a classic trio of top-end poulets de Bresse chicken dishes (three French hens) to spiced Christmas pannacotta (eight maids a-milking), and of course the secrets of a perfect roast goose (six geese a-laying).
There are laughs to accompany the cooking: in addition to the fantastic Christmassy grub, the Hairy Bikers corral everyone they meet - including the original inspiration for Alan Partridge, four call centre workers and the fleet-footed Lords (and Ladies) of the Dance - to sing the lines of the Twelve Days of Christmas song, ready for a rendition at their drum-and-pipe-laden Christmas banquet finale in a beautiful manor house in Scotland.

1017 ks from home according to the sat-nav on the bike. Having never been to a Portugese Treffen we decided to give it a go. Having heard several stories about it we booked in for the camping and all the meals. This is the only Treffen that caters for you if you want it.
We set off with the trailer in tow and headed for Madrid expecting a 10 hour trip. I have noticed that since the credit crunch or crisis as they call it here, the roads are a lot quieter now. We had a quiet trip and as we hit the 700ks we noticed a big drop in the temperature and the clouds were getting very black, it started to rain and the temp went down and down before hitting 8 degrees. We rode through a few showers and arrived at the camp site after an 11 hour journey.
Up and about the next morning was the plan, into the town of Caminha for coffee and toast and a walk around. What a lovely little town it was, very colourfull in the main square with its many cafes and shops. The weather was not very good but we had a good walk around,found the local super market, stocked up and made our way back to the site, parked the bike and walked the short distance to the beach, sat down ordered a coffee and within 5 mins we were hit by rain and boy did it rain, this turned out to be the pattern for the whole weekend, heavy showers and sunshine. Friday night was into a marquee on the local football pitch, a 200 metre walk away for a typical Portuguese meal, roast pork and rice with salad. A few beers,in fact quite a few beers, a stagger back to the tent and a good nights sleep.
Monday morning at 2am we were hit by a severe thunder storm, heavy rain and wind saw us both holding on to the tent and we were lucky not get blown away, some tents did on site and a large branch came off a tree onto a camper, luckily nobody was injured but a very rough night to say the least. At 6 am during a lull in the weather we packed our soggy belongings into the trailer and set off for home. Torrential rain for 3 hours on the way, forcing us to pull over at one stage, the rain stopped and we encountered 80 /90 kilometre winds for the next 4 hours, very poor riding conditions but we carried on and it took us 14 hours to do the 1000 + kms home.
Next week sees us at the Spanish Treffen in Lloret de Mar. So watch this space …

For once I was glad I wasn’t at the track alongside the 88,500 fans that watched the Catalunya MotoGP. There is no way I could have got the view that the BBC gave me watching Lorenzo and Rossi in the most closely fought race of the season. Valentino Rossi commented on Jorge Lorenzo taking pole position for the race that maybe if he had gone to the toilet before the final qualifying session he would have been on pole instead, it was that close.
For a couple of the corners it was sharp intakes of breath for the viewers as it looked almost certain that their desire to win was going to leave them both face down in the gravel. The superb Yamahas kept their grip and on the last corner of the last lap Rossi nipped through to take the victory. As Rossi commented at the press conference - “Mama Mia”!!
Stoner, suffering with some sort of bug, came in third battling to hold off Dovizioso. Capirossi had a great result coming in 5th ahead of the injured Pedrosa.
The overall results show that there are now three joint leaders of the MotoGP World Championship – Lorenzo, Rossi and Stoner – now that’s what you call close.

Please find below my suggestion for fixing Britain 's economy. Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:
There are about 20 million people over 50 in the work force. - Pay them £1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:
1) They MUST retire. Twenty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
2) They MUST buy a new British CAR. Twenty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.
4) They must send their kids to school / college /university - Crime rate fixed
5) Buy £50 of alcohol / tobacco a week there's your money back in duty / tax etc
It can't get any easier than that!
P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back there falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances.

After 11 years of winging Lorna and I decided to do our first Belgian Treffen, having 
It turned out to be a great weekend with 773 bikes from 21 countries in attendance and the weather was great. We met up with Tony,Helen and Holly Perkins , Di and Gizzy and Malc and Carol all from the UK at the hotel L’Amandier just a mile from the Treffen site.
On the Friday 7 of us paid a visit to the caves about 30ks from Libramont, and great day out which finished with a safari ride around the local mountains looking at various 
Saturday saw Lorna and I,Tony, Helen and Holly taking a trip to Luxembourg for the day. A very busy city, with various markets but, very expensive with beer at 5 euros a pint.
Sunday was breakfast and away for Gizzy and Diane for their ride back to Northamptonshire. The rest of us had a quiet day on the Treffen site, shopping in the trade stand hall and lunch in the town of Libramont.
Sunday night was presentation night. GWOCGB took first place for the highest attendance with Holland second. Spain came in at 13th, from 21.

We have never attended a treffen in a car and have decided we would not do it again. If we can’t go on the bike I would rather stay at home. Next trip we hope will be to Holland, then Portugal and then Lloret de Mar for the Spanish Treffen. August sees us and 5 Spanish bike on a 11 day trip to Kelso in Scotland for the British Treffen. So watch this space.

If you can remember that far back, this event is on the way back from the Alcala del Jucar run a year or so ago. Not far from my place and just a couple of villages down the road from where the Buell ran out of petrol. Ayora is the place and the date is the 10,11 and 12th of July, so plenty of time to get yourself across for the weekend!!!!

Fernley, Nevada. Though the track officials could not have been more
accommodating, the track itself was extremely rough and very bumpy;
conditions that helped illustrate the benefits of the C1.

I'd had the Pan for nearly 18 years and not done anywhere near the amount of touring I should have but it has been a fantastic bike and I will miss it but I am looking forward to another bike in the not too distant future. The trouble is I've moved back to the UK, Southport to be precise, and I didn't want to import the Pan back here as I thought it could live out the rest of it's days in Spain.
