Drift HD Ghost

Had my first outing with the camera yesterday, just a quick run to the shops for some cold and flu remedies. Not feeling very well at all, but it was so sunny I just had to get the ‘bike out. All I wanted to do was hide under the duvet all day.

There are lots of clips on YouTube reviewing the camera, probably isn’t much I can add to them. I like the size and shape of the camera, lends itself better to helmet cam use than something like a GoPro. I particularly like the fact that you can rotate the lens, so no matter which way you orientate the camera, you can always get the picture the right way up. The remote is great too, no fiddling around with the camera trying to stop and start it with your gloves on. The remote makes this a very simple operation. The mounts are nice and secure, although the fit between the universal clip (which fixes to the base of the camera) and the helmet mount could be a bit more snug. I found it rattled just a little, so added a piece of thin sticky pad under the clip to stop it.

I’ve used Adobe’s Premiere 9 to process the video and upload to YouTube. It think it converts it into an .flv file before uploading. I’m pretty sure the process degrades the quality of the video in comparison to the original file. If anyone has version 11, I’d like to know if you think it’s worth the upgrade.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going back to bed…

Arai Chaser V

Hi guys, thought I would have a go at posting on a blog to show off my new lid.

After trying on many different makes and models I decided on an Arai Chaser V. It came down to a choice between the Arai, a Shoei XR-1100 or a HJC RPHA-10. Ultimately it was the best fitting helmet for me that helped decide. All 3 have their merits but the Arai fitted my bean head perfectly.

Once that was out of the way, I had to decide on a design. With so many to choose from it proved to be a tough decision to make. Do I wait for a new 2013 design (the Union Jack due out in May was tempting), go for a current design with a bit of colour for a change (the Giugliano Matt looks great), or save a few quid for an older graphic?

This is the one I ended up with, the Strain Silver. Sure, it's not the latest design or anything but I think it looks fantastic. The online shop images don't really do it justice, hopefully these pictures will though. Please note that the Simoncelli 58 on the back doesn't come as standard, that's just my little addition. Have checked with Arai, stickers don't damage the lids.

Best of all, because it's an older graphic, the price was great - £299, not bad considering a new 2013 graphic will set you back up to 460 quid. That saved me some cash for the smoked visor, and some toward a new helmet cam - more about that another day.

Cheers!

Turning Full Circle on Google+

Well it's a long time since I wrote anything original on MotoBlogCycle but this is very interesting.  Over on Google+ I've been bringing together as many people and organisations interested in Motorcycling as it's possible to assemble in one place and the results are very impressive.  The MotoCircle is now over 1000 strong and growing all the time.

Come and meet some of the best known Riders and Bloggers as well as hundreds of bikers from around the world who seem to have raced, stunted, ridden and explored most of it.  There are also MotoGP photographers with fantastic shots and help on how you can get the best results from your camera.

You can join in and add your experiences and photos. Talk to people with years of motorcycling experience or just read the interesting Streams that people publish.

All  of the Google Plussers link to their Blogs, YouTube pages, webs and much, much more all integrated seamlessly.

Among those over on Google+ are:

+George Krieger - Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
+Cyril Huze - Cyril Huze Customs
+AMIGOS DE HARLEY DAVIDSON
+Bike EXIF - Great Bike Photos
+CX Marc Márquez - Moto2 Rider (Official)
+AutoMotoPhoto® - Great MotoGP Photographer
+Carla King - Missadventuring
+John Ashford - Midlife Motorcycle Madness
+MOTOaceleracion in Spanish
+Scott Jones MotoGP Photographer
+Team Suzuki Racing
+Total Motorcycle
+Thumphoto Photography

... and +Jorge Lorenzo Guerrero MotoGP Champion (in English and Spanish)
+Ben Spies MotoGP Rider

... and many more.

In future I hope that we can persuade some of the MotoCircle Plussers to Hang Out with you.  I'm sure if the demand is there we can get some of them to talk live in Google+ Hangouts. I'm sure if the Muppets and President Obama can use it then a few bikers can hack it!

I hope this helps in your enjoyment of motorcycling in all of its aspects.

Each  MotoCircle contains 500 people, companies and clubs and here are the first two of what I hope will be many:

MotoCircle 500

MotoCircle 1000

If you don't know what Google+ is or you haven't tried it out yet come on over and give it a go and I'm sure you will enjoy the experience.  There are also thousands of people with wide ranges of interest in such areas as photography, technology, science, sport, politics, whatever it is you're interested in all life is here.

I’m a sucker for the endurance racer look, especially if twin headlamps are involved. And this is one of the best examples I’ve seen for a long time. Around 1,500 were made, and won acclaim for their streamlined design and exceptional handling."

La classifica delle 10 moto elettriche migliori al mondo

Le 10 moto elettriche migliori al mondo

The best 10 electric bikes in the world.

MotoGP News - Stoner and Dovizioso score Honda one-two at Le Mans

Casey Stoner (Repsol Honda RC212V) scored his second MotoGP victory on a Honda in today’s French Grand Prix to move into second place in the World Championship point standings. Team-mate Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda RC212V) scored a fine second-place finish to secure a brilliant one-two for Repsol Honda.

But what could have been a perfect day for the team was spoiled by a mid-race incident, which saw the luckless Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda RC212V) crash and break a collarbone after tangling with Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini RC212V). Simoncelli was subsequently punished with a ride-through penalty that demoted him from second place to fifth.

Thanks to his third time on Friday, Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia Racing) took the third quickest time, ahead of Troy Corser (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) who was half a second quicker than yesterday.

The same can be said for Noriyuki Haga (Pata Racing Team Aprilia), who was fifth, the Japanese rider finishing the session ahead of Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport). Rossi - Stoner Collision

by Clykins021on April 6th, 2011 at 4:54 pm

Top level sport needs drama and that is exactly what we got on the eighth lap of the Spanish Grand Prix. For the first time in Rossi’s brief Ducati career, it seemed the bike was actually working to his liking. A podium or even a victory seemed possible, a bet that no one in the paddock would have taken after Saturday’s qualifying practice. As he went down the pit straight, Rossi tried to brake as late as possible, something that had never seemed too difficult for him while riding his ex-lover, the Yamaha M1. The GP11 Ducati, however, is not that smooth, gentle Yamaha and even in the hands of a nine-time world champion the front end folded going into turn one. What happened after that will be talked about for days, months and years to come.

We have got together a support team of world class mechanics, but we need a bit more sponsorship because of the withdrawal of a sponsor due to the economic crisis. We ask if you can give a small amount of help to Ana who, at 14 years old, is a delight to watch and very skilful motorcycle racer. With only 2€ per person we can reach that goal. Qatar

The first leg of my journey to Qatar for the first round of the MotoGP season was uncomfortable but not unusual.

After 10 full seasons of covering the sport, I have yet to learn to prepare my suitcase any sooner than bedtime on the eve of departure, or get up any earlier than 10 minutes before the taxi is set to beep its horn, which, in this case, was 5am.

But one thing is significantly different for me this year. This time I will be anchoring the BBC's MotoGP coverage.
